The presidents of the United States, Donald Trump, and Russia, Vladimir Putin, began on Friday their meeting behind closed doors under the motto “Pursuing peace” and accompanied by their respective high -level delegations and not in private, as the White House suggested days before.

Trump was accompanied in this first contact by Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, and the special envoy for the Middle East and Mediator with the Kremlin, Steve Witkoff, while Putin arrived together with Russian Foreign Minister, Serguéi Lavrov, and Yuri Ushakov, Kremlin’s international policy advisor.

Both leaders posed in front of a poster with the motto ‘Pursuing La Paz’ in one of the rooms of the Mentorf-Richardson Air Base, to later speak to the closed door.

The meeting began at 11:30 in the morning Alaska Time (19:30 GMT), American Arctic state who for the first time visits a Russian president.

The conversations will focus on getting a possible fire in Ukraine, which Russia invaded large -scale in February 2022, while Russian counterpart could try to achieve territorial concessions in the east Ukrainian.

Trump hopes to discuss defense issues, as well as possible ways of economic and commercial cooperation, especially given the crisis facing the Russian economy for the high cost of maintaining war.
