The President of the United States, Donald Trump, announced this Thursday an agreement on semiconductors that will be signed this week with Japan, Australia, Singapore and South Korea under the name of the Pax Silica Initiative, through a statement that seeks to promote an economic policy focused on artificial intelligence.

“Not doing this would have been a great gift to many countries, but to China in particular,” Trump said from the Oval Office when reporting the agreement.

The initiative aims to unite nations that are home to the most advanced technology companies to unleash the economic potential of AI, considering shared strategic assets such as computing, silicon, minerals and energy, according to a statement from the State Department.

The Pax Silica summit, which will be held this Friday in Washington, will also include the participation of the Netherlands, the United Arab Emirates, Canada and the European Union.

“Countries will explore multidimensional alliances to strengthen supply chain security, reduce coercive dependencies, protect critical points and foster trusted technological ecosystems in areas such as semiconductors, connectivity, advanced manufacturing and energy,” the State Department explained in a statement.
