The president-elect of the United States, Donald Trump, chose former Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi this Thursday to succeed Matt Gaetz as attorney general of his next cabinet, after he resigned due to his sexual scandals.
“Pam was a prosecutor for almost 20 years. She was very tough on violent criminals and made the streets safe for Florida families,” said the future president on his social network, Truth Social.
The New York magnate recalled that, as Florida’s first female attorney general, a position she held from 2011 to 2019, Bondi “worked to stop the trafficking of deadly drugs and reduce the tragedy of fentanyl overdose deaths, which have destroyed many families” throughout the United States.
“He did such incredible work that I asked him to be part of our Commission on Drug Abuse and Opioids during my first term. We saved many lives!” he added.
Trump reiterated that, “for too long,” the Justice Department has been used against him or other Republicans, something he said will stop.

“Pam will refocus the Department of Justice on its purpose of fighting crime and making America safe again. I have known Pam for many years. “She is intelligent and tough,” he said of his new chosen one, about whom he assured that “she will do an excellent job as attorney general.”
Gaetz, who until last week was a congressman, renounced his candidacy to be attorney general this Thursday.
He was investigated in the past by the Department of Justice, although never charged, for allegedly having sex with minors, violating human trafficking laws, as well as for drug use.
In parallel, he faced a second investigation, open until last week, in the Ethics Committee of the House of Representatives, but those investigations were closed when he resigned from his seat last week, as soon as Trump nominated him, because the commission was left without powers over the legislator.
That same committee refused this Wednesday to make public the report on its investigations, but the pressure against it had intensified and doubts had grown about the possibility of the Senate validating its nomination.
Trump’s future cabinet, which must be authorized by the Upper House, still has key positions blank from his second term such as the Secretary of the Treasury, in addition to others such as the representatives of Labor or Agriculture.
