The president-elect of the United States, Donald Trump, announced this Sunday that he will nominate economist Stephen Miran as director of the White House Council of Economic Advisers for his second term, which will begin on January 20.
Miran, a member of the Manhattan Institute, a conservative think tank, has been highly critical of the economic policy of the Joe Biden Administration and the performance of the president of the Federal Reserve (Fed), Jerome Powell.
“Steve will work with the rest of my economic team to generate strong economic growth that benefits all Americans,” Trump said in a statement.
The Republican highlighted that Miran was an economic policy advisor at the Treasury Department during his first term (2017-2021) and that he has a doctorate in Economics from Harvard University.
In a message on social media, Miran declared himself “extremely honored” by Trump’s assignment.
“I look forward to working to help implement the president’s policy agenda to create a flourishing, non-inflationary economy that brings prosperity to all Americans!” he noted.
