The Office of the United States Trade Representative (USTR), which will be led by Greer, will play a crucial role alongside the Commerce Department in imposing the levies that Trump has promised.
Greer, an international trade lawyer, was chief of staff to Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer during Trump’s first term.

In his statement, Trump recalled that Greer “played a key role” during his first term in imposing tariffs on China and other countries to combat “unfair trade practices,” as well as replacing the “failed” NAFTA with the USMCA, in defense of “American workers.”
In this second term, as the United States trade representative, a position of ministerial rank equivalent to that of ambassador, Greer will be a central figure in the implementation of Trump’s trade policies.
On Monday, Trump announced that he will impose a 25% tariff on all goods imported from Mexico and Canada, as well as an additional 10% tariff on Chinese products, which has already generated strong reactions in the three affected countries, main trading partners. of the United States.
