The president-elect of the United States, Donald Trump, could boost attention to climate change, or snub the issue, specialists said during a conversation at the Forbes 2024 Business and Economy Forum.

“The policy with Trump, from 2016 to 2020, applied a strategy that was energy independence… and now, it will emphasize solar energy,” said Jorge Fabre, Director of the Anahuac Business School Senior Management Institute.

The academic recalled that just the day before, the next American president announced the incorporation of businessman Elon Musk to his work team, and that this profile will push the independence of energy that is not clean.

“With Musk, the solar issue is going to be relevant, there will be a boost in energy, lowering production costs, and innovation in solar issues,” he considered.

However, in his participation in the conversation, David Razú Aznar, General Director of Afore XXI Banorte, called to doubt that Trump is going to make decisions in favor of the environment.

“It is hardly credible that Trump will advance the agenda,” said the manager.

Likewise, the manager explained that although Elon Musk is an entrepreneur with businesses that use solar energy, this will not push sustainability.

“(Musk) is an extremely radical profile, extremely attached to Trump’s vision, he has said that climate change is a scam,” said Razú Aznar.

The participants concluded their talk by agreeing that regardless of what happens in the United States, innovation and drive are required on environmental and governance issues.
