The US president, Donald Trump, was interviewed this Sunday in the Fox News conservative chain, where he said to foresee an economic “transition period” marked by the tariffs that the US has imposed or intends to impose on the goods of other countries.
Interviewed by the presenter Maria Bartiromo and asked about some data that point to a recession this year, Trump replied: “I hate to predict things like that. There is a transition period, because what we are doing is very large, we are bringing wealth to the US again. ”
In parallel, the Secretary of Commerce, Howard Lutnick, in an interview in NBC, said that “there will not be a recession in the US” and argued that “the global tariffs are going to go down because President Trump has said: do they want to impose us 100 %? We will impose 100%. ”
Trump had to address the fluctuations in the tariffs of his government to Mexico and Canada, who concern the markets, and said that on April 2 the “reciprocal tariffs” will enter into force, insisting that they make sense because other countries are “scaming” their.
Regarding reciprocal tariffs on the goods of those countries that take US imports, Lutnick explained that “some products that are made abroad may be more expensive, but Americans will be reduced and that is the goal.”
From his return to the White House, Trump, has threatened tariffs to Mexico and Canada, as well as to China, among other countries, and has applied the rates to, in some cases, temporarily revert them, as in the case of the goods included in the TMEC Agreement with its neighbors.
Regarding the pause in tariffs to the automotive sector, fully integrated between the three countries, he declared that he did it because he wanted to “help American manufacturers” and gave them “a small respite”, but said the levies “can rise” later.
In addition, Trump refused to evaluate these policies according to the impact on the stock market and proposed the Chinese economic monitoring model: “If they look at China, they have a 100 -year perspective. We go for quarters and you can’t do so, you have to do the right thing. ”
