Washington, (EFE) .- President Donald Trump signed a memorandum on Monday to harden US politics in Cuba and restrict certain financial and travel transactions.

The document “ends the economic practices that disproportionately benefit the government, the armed forces, the Cuban intelligence or security agencies at the expense of the Cuban people,” the White House reported in a statement.

In this sense, the US government prohibits “direct or indirect financial transactions with entities controlled by the Cuban military, such as the Business Administration Group SA (GAESA) and its affiliates,” said the letter.

It also states that “the legal prohibition of American tourism to Cuba” will be enforced through periodic audits and the control of records of all transactions related to trips for at least five years.

These indications, which will begin to become effective in the next 30 days, support the economic embargo against Cuba and oppose measures from the United Nations (UN) and other international forums that require the end of the blockade.

The informative sheet also requires a review of human rights abuses in Cuba, “including illegal arrests and inhuman treatment, and requires a report on the fugitives of US justice that live in Cuba or are housed by the Cuban government,” said the US government.

These new measures revert the revocation of the administration of former president Joe Biden, who “relieved the pressure on the Cuban regime” on some of the restrictions Trump had imposed during his first term (2017-2021), according to the White House.
