The president-elect of the United States, Donald Trump, announced this Tuesday the appointment of billionaire Elon Musk and businessman Vivek Ramaswamy as top officials of the brand-new Department of Government Efficiency.
He noted that the Department of Government Efficiency “will provide advice and guidance from outside the Government and will partner with the White House and the Office of Management and Budget to drive large-scale structural reforms and create an enterprise approach to government never seen before.”
As he explained, the work of this office must conclude no later than July 4, 2026, coinciding with the 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States.
“Together, these two wonderful Americans will pave the way for my administration to dismantle government bureaucracy, reduce excess regulations, cut unnecessary spending and restructure federal agencies,” the former president added.
Musk’s appointment as head of this office was an open secret, although the announcement of the appointment of businessman Vivek Ramaswamy, a former candidate for the Republican nomination in these elections, to share the direction of this office has been surprising.
Throughout this Tuesday, the Republican has not stopped announcing the appointments of his next administration and minutes before he announced those of Musk and Ramaswamy, he announced that of Pete Hegseth as the new Secretary of Defense.

Other notable appointments announced today included former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee as the new ambassador to Israel.
Huckabee’s appointment cements Trump’s pledge to more closely align foreign policy with Israel’s interests as it wages wars against Hamas in Gaza and Hezbollah in Lebanon.
This Tuesday, Trump also announced that businessman and philanthropist Steve Witkoff, one of his closest friends, will be his future special envoy for the Middle East, and announced the appointment of John Ratcliffe, former director of National Intelligence, to lead the Agency.
