The president of the United States, Donald Trump, ruled out this Tuesday attending the special G7 summit in Paris, called by the French president, Emmanuel Macron, for next Thursday, considering that the French president “does not have much time left” in power.
“No, I will not go because, as you know, Emmanuel does not have much time left and there is no guarantee of continuity. He is a friend of mine. He is a good guy. I like Macron, but he will not be in office much longer,” he said during a press conference at the White House on the occasion of the first anniversary of his second term.
The American leader added that “it is better to meet with the people directly involved.”
In recent days, Trump has threatened to impose tariffs on France for its military maneuvers to defend Greenland, a Danish island that Washington wants to annex, and for Macron’s refusal to join the Peace Board, a new international organization led by the American president.

Macron, whose term ends in 2027, proposed to Trump to hold a G7 summit in Paris next Thursday, to which he could invite Russia, Ukraine and Denmark.
Trump himself was the one who published on his social network, Truth Social, a private message from Macron in which he invited him to stop in Paris after his attendance at the Davos Forum to address disagreements over Ukraine, Greenland and Syria.
“My friend, we are in complete agreement on the issue of Syria. We can do great things in Iran. I don’t understand what you are doing in Greenland,” Macron wrote in the message to Trump, which the US president unveiled.
Therefore, Macron suggested: “I can organize a G7 meeting in Paris on Thursday afternoon after Davos,” where Trump will be from Wednesday. “Let’s have dinner together in Paris on Thursday before you return to the United States,” he continued.
“I can invite the Ukrainians, Danes, Syrians and Russians on the sidelines of the meeting,” the French president, who signs the message with his first name, Emmanuel, completed his offer.
