The President of the United States, Donald Trump, spoke by telephone this Monday with the Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, with whom he discussed “the expansion of the peace agreements” and whom he invited to Washington to hold a meeting at the White House soon.

This was reported by Netanyahu’s office in a statement about this phone call, which occurred shortly after the American president urged the Israeli prime minister, through a publication on networks, to maintain a “firm and true dialogue” with Syria.

“In their conversation, both leaders highlighted the importance of and commitment to the disarmament of Hamas and the demilitarization of the Gaza Strip and addressed the expansion of the peace agreements,” the statement said.

The first phase of the current ceasefire agreement, promoted by the United States and in force since October 10, contemplates the reopening of the Rafah crossing, in the south of Gaza, for the entry of more flow of humanitarian aid, which will alleviate the situation of the Palestinian population after more than two years without hardly any access to food, something that Israel continues not to allow.

The Hebrew Executive hides itself by saying that it will not do so until the Palestinian militias return the last two bodies of hostages that still remain in the Strip.

On the other hand, in the second phase of the ceasefire the most difficult issues between Israel and Hamas will be addressed, such as the demilitarization of the Palestinian militia, the reconstruction of the Strip, who will govern the enclave and whether Israel will continue on the so-called yellow line or withdraw, among other issues.

The yellow line is the imaginary demarcation to which Israeli troops withdrew when the ceasefire began and after which the entire perimeter (more than 50% of Gaza) continues under Israeli military control.

For the moment, negotiations remain at a standstill with the Gazans in subhuman conditions of habitability and access to basic resources that have worsened weeks ago due to the arrival of heavy rains.

Hamas spokesman Hazem Qassem denounced today that the majority of trucks entering the Strip currently “are destined for the commercial sector and transport complementary materials that are not considered essential for citizens in the midst of the current humanitarian crisis.”

In total, since Israel began its offensive in Gaza in retaliation for Hamas attacks in October 2023, a total of 70,112 Palestinians have been killed in Israeli attacks and 170,986 have been injured, many with amputations and lifelong injuries.

Furthermore, considering them to constitute “immediate threats,” Israeli troops have killed Gazans daily since the truce came into effect, bringing the total number of deaths to 356 people.
