US President-elect Donald Trump announced that any person or company investing at least $1 billion in the country will receive “fully expedited approvals and permits, including, but not limited to, all environmental permits.”

The Republican announced the initiative on his social network Truth Social, in which he did not provide more details.

“Any person or company that invests ONE BILLION DOLLARS, OR MORE, in the United States will receive fully expedited approvals and permits, including, but not limited to, all environmental permits,” Trump wrote, adding in capital letters: “PREPARE TO THE ACTION!”

Trump’s message does not clarify who will be able to apply for these permits, what type of projects could benefit, or how the federal government plans to get around the usual network of regulations.

However, the specific reference to environmental approvals has put the spotlight on Lee Zeldin, the former New York congressman Trump has appointed to head the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

Zeldin, who has little experience in environmental policy, is known for his strong support of Trump’s agenda to end government regulations and reduce federal bureaucracy.

This proposal adds to Trump’s promise to expand the tax cuts for large businesses that he introduced in his first term by reducing the tax rate from 21% to 15% for companies that produce all their products in the United States.
