President Donald Trump promised that he will extend the deadline for Tiktok to continue operating in the country if an agreement is not achieved so that his parent company, the China Bytedonce, emerges from the platform.

“We are going to reach a kind of agreement. But if it does not concrete, nothing happens. We will simply extend it (the deadline). I have the right to extend it if I want,” said the president in a press appearance in the Oval Office of the White House.

Trump admitted that China should approve the sale of the application and opened the door to “a small reduction” of tariffs to the Asian giant to foster an agreement.

The president stressed that Tiktok is a “very popular, very successful and very good” application.

On January 20, on his first day of mandate, Trump signed an executive order that postponed 75 days the entry into force of a federal law that orders Bytedance to sell Tiktok so that the application can continue operating in the country.

The application of short videos ceased to be operational for a few hours in the United States, since the law entered into force the day before the Republican happened in power to Joe Biden.

The legislation, approved in April 2024 for national security reasons with the support of Democrats and Republicans, gave Bytedance a period of nine months to sell its operations in the US to a buyer who was not considered an “adversary” of the country.
