Washington (EFE) .- President Donald Trump signed an executive order by which anyone who wants to register to vote in federal elections must provide documents demonstrating their citizenship.
In this way, the Electoral Assistance Commission will require a documentary evidence that US citizens have in its voter registration form.
Among the documents that will be accepted as valid to vote are a passport from the United States, an identification document (ID) or a military identification card.
In the executive order, Trump indicates that the states do not investigate “properly” the citizens of the voters and emphasize the importance of “free, fair and honest elections, free of fraud, errors or suspicions.”
Trump has said on numerous occasions that there was electoral fraud in the presidential elections of 2020, in which he lost against former president Joe Biden, and, specifically, he said that citizens voted illegally, although there is no evidence of it.
“The right of US citizens to which their votes are counted correctly is vital to determine the legitimate winner of elections,” he says in the order.

The illegal immigration and responsibility reform law of immigrants explicitly prohibits vote in a federal election to people born abroad without US citizenship under the threat of fines, prison, inadmissibility and deportation.
The American Union for Civil Liberties (ACLU) condemned Trump’s executive order, “which aims to deprive millions of eligible voters from vote.”
According to Sophia Lin Lakin, director of the Right to Voting Right Project, this measure will affect “disproportionately” to historical communities excluded as color voters, naturalized citizens, people with disabilities or the elderly.
On the other hand, the order also urges the states to use voting systems that do not register the votes through bar codes, and also prohibits in the counting of the votes by mail that have been received after the day the elections are held.
According to the document, the Department of National Security and the Department of Government Efficiency – this one orth directed by the Magnate Elon Musk – will review the voter registration list of each State.
