President Claudia Sheinbaum announced this morning that 25% tariffs that Donald Trump imposed to Mexico are postponed a month, as of today, after a call with her American counterpart.
The president informed him on his social networks:
“We held a good conversation with President Trump with much respect for our relationship and sovereignty; We arrive at a series of agreements:
1. Mexico will reinforce the northern border with 10,000 elements of the National Guard immediately, to avoid drug trafficking from Mexico to the United States, particularly fentanyl.
2. United States undertakes to work to avoid high -power arms trafficking to Mexico.
3. Our teams will start working today in two aspects: security and commerce.
4. The tariffs are paused for a month from now on.
Then To post the message, Sheinbaum went to his press conference in the National Palace that was scheduled from last night at 9:00 am due to the call, where he was received by applause by a press sector.
At the conference, Sheinbaum revealed what he held in the call with Trump and even congratulated his cabinet.
“We are a great team, the truth is that I feel not only supported, but we have really built a great team in the cabinet. We had a conversation with President Trump. He spoke yesterday, through the embassy they let us know that he was going to call today at 8 in the morning. We, I mean we had looked for a conversation with him. On Friday, I think it was, right? On Friday we request a call with him. It took today at 8 in the morning and was a long conversation.
“It was more than half an hour, right? Three quarters of an hour, something like that. We were talking about the issues of common interest. I asked him that we had been working together in migration, which had resulted, always we based on protection and respect for human rights, ”he said.
Sheinbaum added that they also talked about interest. Both nations have to reduce the traffic of fentanyl that occurs from Mexico to the United States and other drugs, not just fentanyl.

Sheinbaum said he also raised to pause the tariffs and that he explained the severity of the amount of high -power weapons that enter from the United States to Mexico illegally and that they are for criminal groups.

Sheinbaum revealed that Trump asked how long the tariffs wanted to pause and she said “forever,” then told her that a month to be able to give good results for both nations.
