New York, (EFE) .- The automobile manufacturer Tesla said that President Donald Trump’s tariffs assumed him an expense of 300 million dollars in the second quarter.

“The cost of tariffs (for Tesla) increased up to 300 million, with approximately two thirds of that impact on the automobile sector and the rest in the energy,” said Tesla’s financial director, Vaibhav Taneja, in a call with investors after publishing the quarterly results of the company.

Taneja clarified that the total impact of the encumbrances will be further noticed in the next quarters, and stressed that the cost will increase in the short term: “We are doing everything possible to manage this impact.”

The Executive Director of Tesla, Elon Musk, said in the call that the company’s energy division faces “winds against” by the president’s tariff policy.

But he pointed out that this sector is growing “very well despite the obstacles that tariffs suppose.”

Taneja stressed the “unpredictable environment” in regards to tariffs but assured that customers “are willing to accept” some of the effects of these taxes.

The company’s shares on Wall Street fell 3.8% in electronic operations after closing.

The car manufacturer published on Tuesday that its net benefits fell 16% in the second quarter of the year to 1,172 million dollars, after registering a reduction also of 16% of its income in the automobile sector.

Tesla pointed out in a statement that, from April to June, its income from the sale of cars fell to 16,661 million dollars. The total of its income, which includes the sale of energy storage units and other services, was 22,496 million, which represents a 12%drop.

In its results, the company highlighted its “high value” investments in capital and research and development “despite the continuous macroeconomic uncertainty derived from tariff changes”.

Tesla has suffered this year Bicots and protest actions in both North America and Europe, due in part to the role that Elon Musk played until last May at the head of the Government Efficiency Department (Doge), created to reduce federal expenditure in the US and bureaucracy.

In addition, the closeness of the tycoon to Trump – truncated after a sound public distancing – and its positioning in favor of extreme right groups in Europe and the rest of the world fueled a serious image crisis of Tesla.
