The president of the United States, Donald Trump, explained on Tuesday that he would “love” to remove the financing of the public radio NPR and the state television PBS, which he accuses of not being impartial.

“I would love to do it. The whole group is very unfair and biased. It would be an honor to end,” he said in the White House when asked by the press if he plans to withdraw the federal funds to those two stations.

The president said he does not need NPR or PBS because his government already receives sufficient coverage of private media and said that financing them is “a waste of money.”

Trump revealed that he does not know what the recommendation of the Government Efficiency Department is, the body led by Elon Musk to cut public spending, but assumed that his position will be to close those means.

On March 15, Trump ordered the closure of the United States Agency for Global Media, a network of public media that included the voice of America, an international station created in 1942 and which had about 2,000 employees.

NPR and PBS are financed through the Corporation for Public Radiodice (CPB), whose funds come from Congress, as well as the quotas of affiliated local stations and private donations.
