The president of the United States, Donald Trump, said he would consider relocating the 2026 World Cup matches of the cities that he does not consider safe, months before the Fourth Football Straw Stop, which also welcomes its neighbors Canada and Mexico.
Eleven American cities will be encounters, including the final in New York/New Jersey, in the largest edition of the history of the tournament.
Asked about the possibility of transferring the parties of the cities that do not cooperate with their initiatives on immigration and crime, Trump said that was on the table during statements made in the Oval Office on Thursday.
“If I think it is not safe, we will transfer it to another city,” said Trump, who is a Republican.

It was not clear immediately if Trump would have that power. Reuters contacted the governing body of world football, FIFA, to request comments.
A reporter in the information session of the Oval Office cited two cities – San Francisco and Seattle, controlled by the Democrats – as possible objectives for them to revoke the World Cup organization.
Hana Tadesse, Seattle spokesman for the FIFA 26 World Cup, said the group had committed to guaranteeing a safe experience and trusted its planning.
“Since FIFA selected us as a host city, we have worked closely with them, with the White House working group for the FIFA 26 World Cup, with community partners and with the forces of the order,” Tadesse said in a statement.
“Seattle expects to shine on the world stage and house an event that is not only spectacular, but sure for all”
The host committee of the San Francisco Bay area did not immediately respond to a request for comments.
Trump sent hundreds of soldiers to the US capital, led by the Democrats, earlier this year to support a federal offensive against what he called an epidemic of crime.
The description goes against the available data that shows that crime rates, in general, have decreased in recent years.
