The president of the United States, Donald Trump, declared Wednesday that he intends to extend the federal control over the forces of the order in Washington DC after considering that the 30 days stipulated initially “are not enough” to “combat crime” in the capital.

Trump said he will send a proposal to the Capitol to expand the validity of the control over the Washington DC Metropolitan Police Department (MPD), which assumed Monday through a national emergency statement.

During an intervention at the Kennedy Center, the president carried the Democrats again, accusing them of “doing nothing to stop crime” in the city and assured that the republican majority in Congress will approve the extension without any problems.

The Republican indicated that he has collaborated with the city mayor, Muriel Bowser, in the last six months, however he said that the official crime figures “are worse than never” and accused local authorities of manipulating statistics.

The decision to federalize the forces of the order of the capital has generated controversy among the president’s detractors and a large part of the capital’s residents.

According to Washington Police data, violent crimes have decreased by 26% during the first six months of 2025 compared to the same period of the previous year. Similarly, homicides record a 12%drop.

Trump thanked the team that put in charge of his strategy to “clean” the city, especially the Attorney General, Pam Bondi, and insisted that they will be very “transparent”, after which he launched an invitation to the media to accompany the agents during their operations.

In the first 24 hours of the Trump campaign, the White House indicated that 23 arrests were made for various crimes. They also reported that 850 federal agents are running operations in various areas of the city.

The president threatened Wednesday again to take control of police forces in other cities with local Democratic governments such as Chicago, New York and Los Angeles, which he says are “out of control.”
