New York, (EFE) .- The businessman Jack Dorsy, one of the creators of Twitter and Bluesky, launched on Monday a decentralized and encructed messaging application that uses the Bluetooth connectivity network, called Bitchat, and which is already testing a group of 10,000 users.
Dorsy communicated through X that Bitchat is a kind of experiment of his that reminds the old Chat IRC and explained that it is a “network in mesh” Bluetooth service, so it works without the Internet, and also does not use “servers, accounts or data collection.”
The eccentric entrepreneur said that the beta version, available in TestFlight, has already reached a maximum of 10,000 people and is being reviewed for complete launch, while responding throughout the day to the comments of those who have tried it.
Bitchat “provides ephemeral and encrypted communication without relying on Internet infrastructure, making it resilient to network and censorship blackouts,” says a technical document published by DORSEY on the Github portal, in which he shares the “technical architecture, protocols and privacy mechanisms” of the ‘app’.

It also indicates that the messages are only stored on the devices and that they disappear by default without reaching a centralized infrastructure, and can be “chat in public” or enter rooms that can be protected with a password.
DORSEY is known for his technological ventures, including the social network Twitter (now X), which he founded in 2006; the Square payments firm (now Block), in 2009; or Bluesky, an alternative network to X, which he founded in 2019, and on whose board of directors he worked until his departure in 2024.
The entrepreneur, known for his Bohemian lifestyle, is a great open source defender to counteract the dominance of large companies over technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI).
