The Mexican Navy Secretariat confirmed the two deaths in a statement and referred to an “official updated report of 22 injured crew, of which 11 are diagnosed as delicate and nine stable”, figures that are superior to those handled by the Mayor’s Office of New York.
The mayor was accompanied by the Mexican ambassador, Esteban Moctezuma, who without talking about the figures declared that the injured are receiving “the best treatment” in the hospital, and added that the Secretary of the Navy is now looking for relatives to inform them.
Federal transport authorities are investigating the accident, and preliminary information points to “mechanical problems” of the ship, as disclosed in the appearance.

The Secretariat of the Navy of Mexico indicated in a message in X that the accident occurred during “the Zapar maneuver” and “caused damage” on the ship, and later confirmed that “no element fell into the water, so the activation of rescue operations was not necessary.”
The New York congressman Adriano Espaillat, previously indicated in his X account that there was “a rescue operation in the water” and the president of the district of Manhattan, Mark Levine, of the Mayor’s Office of New York, said that the divers had finished their work, without specifying it.
