The National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) and the National Polytechnic Institute (IPN), the highest institutions of higher studies in Mexico, will carry out, jointly, an admission exam at the Baccalaureate level in Mexico from this 2025, They reported both institutions on Monday.
Meanwhile, the Federal Government announced the elimination of the examination of the Metropolitan Commission of Public Institutions of Higher Secondary Education (COMIMS) that was in force for 29 years.
“We have decided to reiterate the exam with entry requirement. Education is a right and therefore all (adolescents) will have a place, and it is a good place in a good school, ”said Tania Rodríguez, Undersecretary of Higher Education
Rodríguez said both the UNAM and the IPN will continue with their respective entrance exams and there will be only one registration platform to facilitate the registration of high school students (basic level) and stressed that both institutions, those of greater demand for students, will carry out jointly the entrance exam for high school.
The person in charge of presenting the new National Baccalaureate System, in the National Palace, was the president of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, who said: “This day we went from rejection of inclusion, from abandonment to the dignification of young people and privilege to the right to education ”.
In 2024, around one 285,000 young Mexicans registered to the entrance exam for the upper middle level, of which 60% chose UNAM; Secondly, the schools of the Secretariat of Education of the State of Mexico were found, with 20% and thirdly the IPN with 12%.
But the UNAM accepted only 31,000 students and the Polytechnic about 22,000.
In his turn, the director of the IPN, Arturo Reyes, explained that the joint exam with the UNAM “will be exclusive to both institutions”, online and there will be support personnel for students who need help for some disability.
Meanwhile, students seeking admission to another public baccalaureate such as the Bachelo Next February 14 where they can choose closeness and preference, and will have a safe place.
