A radio telescope to reveal the secrets of black holes and a telescope to encourage astrophysics studies are part of the works that the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) will install in the National Astronomical Observatory of San Pedro Mártir, located in Baja California.
“The New Generation Event Horizon Telescope (NGEHT) project in the San Pedro Mártir National Astronomical Observatory aims Forbes Mexico.

The New Generation Event Horizon Telescope is a first -class international scientific project that seeks to obtain the first black holes films, explains the educational institution.
This is the extension of the current Event Horizon Telescope (EHT), which obtained the first images of black holes in the centers of the M87 galaxy and our own Milky Way.
“In its new version, the NGEHT project plans to install a dozen new radielscopes in sites selected by the quality of its sky,” says UNAM.
The project is in its first stage that contemplates the installation of the first Radio Country in the bells in Chile, the Canary Islands in Spain, Wyoming in the United States, as well as the National Astronomical Observatory in the Sierra de San Pedro Mártir.
With regard to the project that will be installed in the San Pedro Mártir National Astronomical Observatory, it is an antenna that will be 1 meters in diameter and will be equipped with receptors that will operate at the frequencies of 86, 225 and 345 GHz.
The UNAM will also build the Transpacific Observatory, an international project for the development, installation and operation of a 2 -meter telescope (TP2M) in the Sierra de San Pedro Mártir.
The project brings together the experience of multiple institutions, including the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), the Institute of Astronomy of the National Central University (NCUIA) and the Astronomical Observatory of Shanghai, the Henan Academy of Sciences, the Aix-Marseille University (AMU). The main objective of the TPO and TP2M project is to advance scientific and technological research in observational and astrophysical astronomy.

The project will encourage scientific and technological exchange among institutions, will promote the development of joint research initiatives in astronomy, astrophysics and related disciplines.
Also, the Transpacific Observatory (TPO) and the 2 -meter telescope (TP2M), which are a world -class observation installation, will promote scientific research in astrophysics and encourage international collaboration.
The Sierra de San Pedro Mártir has proven to be one of the most appropriate sites in the northern hemisphere to make astronomical observations, due to the high number of nights clear during the year, the stability of its atmosphere, the darkness of the sky and the low content of water vapor in the atmosphere
Projects to resolve the secrets of black holes and encourage astrophysics research will be built on land reserved for astronomical research by the National Autonomous University of Mexico.
To access the National Astronomical Observatory of San Pedro Mártir, it is made by a secondary road of approximately 98 km, completely paved, which starts at km 140 of the Federal Transpeninsular Highway No. 1, in the Ensenada-San Quintín section.
They currently operate 11 telescopes managed by the Astronomy Institute, so they have interior roads and access roads.
Water is transported in pipe from a well located outside the National Park; Its distribution is a daily effort, since water for human consumption is processed in the water treatment plant of the observatory. In addition, there is a network of electricity and fiber optic provided by the CFE.

The National Astronomical Observatory of San Pedro Mártir has buildings that house the telescopes, as well as a three -level building that includes rooms for operational, research, maintenance and guests, offices, kitchen, dining room, library and television rooms.
It also has seven bungalows with 18 rooms and three workshops for the maintenance and repair of vehicles, if necessary.
