Undertake with purpose: the secret that makes the difference

In the world of family business, undertaking is much more than starting a business. It is to raise a project with deep roots, where the last name is mixed with the effort and personal history with collective commitment. However, many times the most important question is forgotten before starting: for what?
Undertake just to escape unemployment, just to pay accounts or just to “do something” rarely works. But when we undertake to serve, to solve something that the world needs, when we move the conviction that “this must exist”, then a different force appears: that of purpose.
Not just about winning
There are family entrepreneurs who start business thinking only of what they can win. Others do it because they enjoy the trade. And few – the ones that really transcend – do it because they believe they can leave the world a little better. In them, the purpose guides vision, and vision attracts others to walk with them.
It’s not about denying money. Profitability is part of the game, but not the end of the game. When money is the only reason, values are diluted, the family is tense and the legacy weakens.
On the other hand, when the question is “Who do we serve with this?” Family conversation changes. There is connection with the community, with customers, with collaborators, and yes, also with the numbers … but in their right place.

When the purpose is clear, the work is filled with meaning. Each one in the family can see where and how to contribute from their talent, without competing, without comparing. In addition, when a family business knows what it exists, it transmits culture, values and vision to the following generations. And that is worth more than any financial balance.
Employing without purpose is like building without planes: I may lift something, but it will hardly endure. The purpose is not a luxury, it is the foundation of everything worth building.
The legacy begins with a ‘for what‘
In the family business, undertaking is not just a matter of opportunity, it is a matter of legacy. If we know what we undertake for, we will also know where to go, with whom to walk and how to resist storms. Because when the purpose guides, success – interns and external – becomes an inevitable consequence.
