US President Donald Trump on Wednesday signed a proclamation to address national security concerns regarding semiconductor imports, and imposed a 25% tariff on certain advanced computing chips, such as Nvidia’s H200 and AMD’s MI325X, the White House said.

This 25% tariff will not apply to chips that are imported for the US technology supply chain and to boost domestic manufacturing capacity for semiconductor derivatives, according to the White House document.
Trump, in the near future, could also impose broader tariffs on imports of semiconductors and their derivative products to incentivize domestic manufacturing, according to the fact sheet.
