The United States Department of Transportation reported that more than 11,000 employees of the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), approximately a quarter of their staff, will be temporarily suspended employment if government financing is interrupted at midnight.

American airlines have warned that a partial stoppage of the federal government could put in trouble to US aviation and decelerate flights, since aerial controllers and security agents would be forced to work without salary and other functions would be paralyzed.

With the aim of keeping the safe skies, more than 13,000 current air controllers would have to continue working, but they would not charge until the closing ended, FAA said.

FAA is missing about 3,800 controllers to reach the planned staff levels, but even if government financing was stopped, FAA would continue to hire and form aerial controllers.

Around 50,000 employees of the transport security administration attending the airport security control points would also have to continue working, but would not charge.

In 2019, during a 35 -day closure, the number of absences of controllers and TSA officials increased as workers did not charge, which extended waiting times at the control points in some airports. The authorities were forced to slow down air traffic in New York, which pressed legislators to quickly put an end to stoppage. The commercial group of Airlines for America, which represents United Airlines, Delta Air Lines, American Airlines, Southwest Airlines and others, warned that if the financing fails, “the system could have to slow down, reducing efficiency” and affecting travelers.
