The US budget deficit in August fell 35,000 million dollars, or 9%, compared to the previous year, to 345,000 million dollars, since the tariffs of President Donald Trump raised the net customs revenues about 22.5 billion dollars in the month, the Treasury department reported Thursday.

In the absence of a month for fiscal year 2025, the deficit of the year to date increased 76,000 million dollars, or 4%, to 1,973 billion dollars.

August revenues increased 38,000 million dollars, 12%, to 344,000 million, while the expenses grew 2000 million, to 689,000 million. Both income and expenses reached new records in the month.

The net customs income of August also reached a historical monthly record of 29.5 billion dollars, compared to the 7,000 million a year earlier, driven by Trump tariffs.
