The Mexico, United States and Canada Agreement (TMEC) is the best deal for the economies of North America, despite the commercial and political coincidences and differences, considered Francisco Cervantes Díaz, president of the Business Coordinating Council (CCE).

“The USMCA is the best deal that has happened for the North American region and it has been a treaty that has had many coincidences and differences,” said the businessman, after a meeting he held with Ken Salazar, United States ambassador in Mexico.

This meeting, which took place at the residence of the American diplomat, was attended by Mónica Aspe from AT&T, José María Zas from HSBC, Victor González Herrera from Doctor Simi and other Mexican and American businessmen.

During the conversation they talked about the future of the USMCA, a trade agreement threatened by a probable imposition of tariffs by the president-elect of the United States, Donald Trump.

“Nothing that cannot be fixed and we already experienced it, when NAFTA ends and the USMCA begins,” said the leader of the business organization.

The representative of the top organization recalled that Mexico, the United States and Canada worked for 14 months of negotiations to reach a good agreement like the USMCA, which has been very beneficial for commercial and economic integration.

“Today North America is the most important region and number one in the world,” said the manager.

“After the Covid-19 pandemic, North America was the region that experienced economic reactivation the fastest and there is a complementary integration of Mexico with the United States and Canada and they do not compete with each other,” said Cervantes Díaz.

For the business representative, there are concerns that must be focused and addressed,

“We are going to turn out well and we have lived 30 years with the Free Trade Agreement and we have always had the capacity for understanding,” concluded the president of the CCE.
