The value of the electronic commerce of goods and services fell to a tenth to 6.4% of GDP, the INEGI based on data from 2023 reported Tuesday.

The contribution of electronic commerce as part of GDP descended from 6.5% of 2022, although it is greater than 5.1% of 2021, the agency explained.

Despite the decrease as the proportion of GDP, the gross added value of electronic commerce rose 8.5% per year in real terms in 2023 to more than 1.67 billion pesos.

Of this amount, the INEGI explained that 23.2% corresponded to the retail trade, 25.7%, to wholesale sales and the other 51.1% to the rest of the services.

The report explained that “in 2023, the results reflected the behavior that Internet trade has had in the economy, with the increase in use of services on platforms and social networks.”

“A decrease in the participation of retail trade was identified, as a consequence of the customs of face -to -face purchase and recovery that services such as educational, transport, professionals and those for rent of goods, among others, which in 2020 They reduced their activity because of the pandemic, ”he added.

The data also exhibit the economic behavior of Mexico, whose GDP slowed to 1.5% in 2024 after a 3.3% growth in 2023.

In addition, retail sales in Mexico rose 7.1% in 2024, as reported last month the National Association of Self -Service and Departmental Stores.
