The Argentine president, Javier Milei, said Wednesday that his government seeks to “make Argentina a power” so that the inhabitants of the Falklands Islands, South Georgias and South Sandwich, “prefer to be Argentine”, during an act in commemoration of a new anniversary of the war, in the city of Buenos Aires.
“We yearn for the Malvinenses to one day vote with our feet. That is why we seek to be a power, to the point that they prefer to be Argentines, that it is not necessary to use the deterrence or conviction to achieve it,” said the president in his speech, which was transmitted by National Chain, 43 years after the beginning of the war.
Milei insisted on the “uncertain claim for the Falkland Islands” and once again committed to “exhaust all diplomatic resources to return to Argentine hands.”
In turn, he criticized previous governments, which he described as “corrupt”, and held them responsible for the lack of results in the claim for the sovereignty of the Falkland Islands.
In another section of his speech, the president claimed the role of the Argentine Armed Forces and stressed that his government has terminated the time in which they were “belittled.”
“Although the political caste tried to convince us otherwise for decades, Argentina needs robust armed forces. They are necessary to defend our extensive territory of potential threats in a global context of growing uncertainty,” he said.
The president has signed a decree, which was published on Wednesday in the Official Gazette, which recognizes as reserve sub -reservoirs to all applicants for reserve officers (AOR) who fought in the war conflict.
“This degree would have corresponded to them once the military service was over, but it was truncated by having received the direct decline after the end of the war. It is, neither more nor less, to pay off a debt with these heroes,” he said in his speech about the measure.

It was received by the head of Buenos Aires Government, Jorge Macri. Together with a delegation of national officials, they greets on the ‘unknown soldier’ plaque, then placed a floral offering at the foot of the monument to the heroes and made a minute of silence.
The Ministers of Security and Defense, Patricia Bullrich and Luis Petri were present; the Secretary of Legal and Technical, María Ibarzábal; the national deputy José Luis Espert and the libertarian legislator Juliana Santillán.
There was no vice president, Victoria Villarruel, with whom Milei has a confrontation several months ago, because she traveled to the city of Ushuaia to participate in the act that will be held there.
The Argentine invasion of the Malvinas (Falkland for the British), on April 2, 1982, led to a war between Great Britain and the South American country in the waters of the South Atlantic, for the possession of the archipelago, English colony since 1833 and claimed by the Argentine government.
649 Argentine soldiers died during the war conflict, 323 due to the sinking of the Ara General Belgrano cruise caused by a British submarine.
