Weinstein Ex Georgina Chapman Faces Pile of Lawsuits

Georgina Chapman, founder of the fashion line Marchesa and ex-wife of disgraced film producer Harvey Weinstein, has allegedly not been paying her bills.

In addition to a foreclosure filed on her West Village apartment, Chapman faces lawsuits over alleged nonpayment in her personal and professional life.

Chapman bought her home at 99 Jane Street in an all-cash deal in 2009 for $1.7 million and later mortgaged the property with her brother and Marchesa CEO Edward Chapman in 2020. Upon satisfying that mortgage, she re-mortgaged the property in 2022, again with Edward, for $2.5 million.

The foreclosure complaint claims that Chapman, who was set to pay over $9,000 per month per the loan terms, defaulted in November 2024 and owes the original $2.5 million loan, interest and late fees.

Chapman, who announced her split with Weinstein in 2017 following sexual assault allegations made against the producer, finalized the divorce in 2021. The previous year, Weinstein had been convicted of third-degree rape and criminal sexual assault in the first degree and sentenced to 23 years in prison.

The condo board at 99 Jane Street sued Chapman earlier this year, alleging she had fallen behind on dues, which the foreclosure complaint claims are over $7,000.

That’s a paltry sum compared to the over $1.4 million that GFP Real Estate claims Marchesa owes for unpaid rent and utilities for its fourth-floor lease at 80 Eighth Avenue, according to a lawsuit filed in September. Marchesa also had occupied the 17th floor of the property but surrendered that space in September. GFP is seeking damages for late payments and to have Marchesa removed from the fourth floor.

A merchant cash advance company also sued Marchesa, Georgina Chapman and Edward Chapman in July, alleging the pair instructed their bank to stop making payments after agreeing to pay $500,000 in receivables for an advance of $300,000.

Chapman rose to prominence when she co-founded Marchesa with Karen Craig in 2004. She married Weinstein in 2007 but distanced herself from him shortly after multiple reports detailed the producer’s rampant criminal sexual activity. Craig left the company in 2019.

Weinstein himself held a sizable real estate portfolio that he sold off following the rape accusations. That included a $25 million West Village townhouse he and Chapman once lived in together, a Hamptons home in Amagansett sold for $10 million in 2018 and a $16 million Westport, Connecticut, property sold for $16 million. Weinstein also owned an office condo on the third floor of 375 Greenwich Street, which sold in 2019 for more than $6 million.

In 2020, Chapman began dating actor Adrien Brody, who owns a historic castle in upstate New York and a home in the Hollywood Hills.
