President Claudia Sheinbaum reiterated on Thursday in Monterrey her will to dialogue with her US counterpart, Donald Trump, as well as with the Mexican business sector, amid the threats of the imposition of tariffs by Washington.
“We live new moments, we are going to put it that way, but we have raised and it is a form of work that will always characterize us that when there is dialogue and respect it is always possible to advance. Be with the president of the United States, be it with the businessmen of Mexico, either with anyone who wants to move forward,” he said in his participation in the annual assembly of Caintra (Chamber of the Transformation Industry of Nuevo León).
The president plans to meet in Monterrey with entrepreneurs in the steel and aluminum sector to analyze the impact of tariffs imposed by Trump on March 12 in Mexican exports.
Sheinbaum stressed that the economic relationship supported by Mexico and the United States strengthens both nations, so it defended the good results of the Commercial Treaty (TMEC) of both countries and Canada.

“That we do not compete among us, that we complement each other and that it is the only way to face competition with other regions of the world,” he said.
Sheinbaum presented to the businessmen the “Mexico Plan” where he highlighted the economic achievements of the nation and the goals that are sought.
“Our weight, even with the difficulties we have faced is a strong currency, the international reserves of the Bank of Mexico are in a historical figure,” he shared in the event, which was also attended by the governor of Nuevo León, Samuel García.
The growth of GDP in 2024 was 1.5%, but the imposition of new tariffs and political and commercial uncertainty have weakened perspectives for 2026.
Sheinbaum asked to wait to see what happens on April 2, the new date to begin the generalized tariffs of 25% to all Mexican products in the United States after having achieved two monthly pauses since February.

Sheinbaum cited some of the objectives that the “Mexico Plan” is promoting consist of being among the top 10 economies in the world, raising the proportion of investment compared to GDP to reach 28%, as well as the generation of 1.5 million jobs, 50% of the supply and national consumption and 50% of public purchases in the national market, among other things.
