Sony Animation has delivered huge hits in recent years with the Spider-Verse franchise and KPop Demon Hunters, and now the studio has kicked off 2026 with an animated animal-led sports film, GOAT. It stars Caleb McLaughlin, Gabrielle Union, David Harbour, and Aaron Pierre, as well as NBA superstar Stephen Curry, who also produced the feature.
The original animated movie debuted in theaters on February 13 and quickly found its audience. Backed by GOAT‘s strong reviews, the film has already made over $50 million worldwide.
And while seeing it on the big screen is the only way to experience it right now, the film’s eventual streaming release on Netflix is also something you may want to know, whether to see it for the first time or rewatch it endlessly.
Why Goat Will Stream On Netflix
While GOAT‘s streaming release plans have not been officially discussed in any capacity, the movie will make its debut on Netflix at the appropriate time. This is due to the long-standing relationship between Sony and Netflix. The latter has been the streaming destination for any Sony movie during its first run since 2022, with the studios extending the partnership this year and expanding the reach worldwide.
Since Sony Animation is an extension of Sony Pictures, its movies fall under this deal. This is why many of the best Sony Animation movies have streamed on Netflix in recent years. That partnership is also why films like The Mitchells vs. the Machines, Fixed, and KPop Demon Hunters became Netflix exclusive releases.
GOAT will become available to all Netflix subscribers after its theatrical and home entertainment releases are complete, as a result of this existing deal.
Goat’s Projected Netflix Release Date
So, when exactly will GOAT stream on Netflix? The studios haven’t made any formal release announcements, but we can project its likeliest landing spots thanks to the years of data regarding how the partnership has worked.
GOAT is only the second Sony Animation movie to come out in theaters since the Netflix deal has been in place. The other was Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, which took 151 days after debuting in theaters to release on Netflix. Applying this gap would mean GOAT‘s streaming debut coming in mid-July.
That seems unlikely, though, since Across the Spider-Verse was a major sequel and a massive box office hit. It’s the longest gap on record for a Sony release with the Netflix deal. It’d be a surprise for GOAT to receive the same treatment rather than fall more in line with the rest of Sony’s movies.
The studio’s 2025 movies took 102.5 days on average to go to streaming, with 120 days being the max gap (used for Karate Kid: Legends, A Big Bold Beautiful Journey, and more). The average gap would project a late May launch. If the 120 day gap is applied, GOAT‘s projected release on Netflix is mid-June.
In any event, GOAT is poised to make its streaming debut sometime this summer. Whether it comes in May or June is still to be determined, but Sony and Netflix are likely expecting it to top the streaming charts whenever it happens.
