Washington (EFE) .- White House spokeswoman, Karoline Leavitt, rejected that the statue of freedom to France returned, after a French parliamentarian asked that the gift to Americans be returned in the 1880s.
“Of course not,” Leavitt said when questioned about whether the monument would be returned.
“My advice for that unidentified French politician would be to remind him that it is only thanks to the United States of America that the French are not speaking German at this time, so they should be very grateful to our great country,” he added.
The French center of center -left of the European Parliament Raphaël Glucksmann criticized the current situation of the US country stating that it no longer represents the values that led France to offer the statue in 1884.
The statue designed by the French sculptor Auguste Bartholdi was delivered by France as a gift to the United States on July 4, 1884, on the occasion of the centenary of the declaration of independence.
