The launch of Absolute Batman sent shockwaves through the comic industry, drastically reinventing DC’s biggest star in a bolder, bloodier, and more brutal form than ever witness before. So it should come as no surprise that with the message sent, more artists are lining up to reimagine other heroes and villains in the same reality. But nobody, and we mean nobody, was ready for Absolute Wolverine.

Comic Artist Mark Brooks Shows What Wolverine Would Look Like in DC’s Extreme Absolute Universe
We suppose that no fan had actually asked “how much more extreme would an Absolute Wolverine have to be?”, but that’s what makes comic industry superstars like artist Mark Brooks different from the rest of us. Taking to social media to reveal his version of a “what if?” character design, the rendition of a reinvented Wolverine is nothing short of jaw-dropping.
Taking the foundational design elements seen in Nick Dragotta’s Absolute Batman of extreme ears on the cowl, and elongated tendrils on his cape, Brooks’ breathtaking “warm-up sketch for fun” applies the same to Logan. When Dragotta’s ‘gigantic Batman’ design was revealed, fans were shocked into disbelief that so massive a character could ever work. But the shock did subside, meaning this inhumanly massive Wolverine simply works at first glance. And the same goes for his claws (which, let’s be honest, have never made any sense anyway).

The Marvel/DC Battle Has Happened Before, Giving Bruce Wayne The Edge
It’s hard to explain the alchemical link between Batman and Wolverine when it comes to Marvel/DC crossovers and comparisons. On some level, there is no denying that Absolute Batman‘s level of violence and dismemberment takes a giant step towards Wolverine’s brand of action. Despite that, this glimpse of what Wolverine would actually embody in an Absolute style still speaks to something unique in DC’s blockbuster universe.
For our money, this sketch is enough to prove that DC and Marvel’s “new era” of cooperation must include a collision within the Absolute Batman universe. Even if the world might not be ready for an Absolute take on Darkclaw, the Batman/Wolverine hybrid, the world deserves every opportunity for a Wayne/Logan team-up it can possibly get.
