A consortium led by Elon Musk offered 97.4 billion dollars to buy the non -profit organization that Openai controls, the Wall Street Journal reported Monday, months after the billonary demanded the startup of artificial intelligence to prevent it from becoming a profit company.

Musk’s offer could increase long -standing tensions between him and Openai CEO, Sam Altman, about the future of the startup in the heart of a boom in generative artificial intelligence technology.

The two are already wrapped in an ongoing demand. Musk criticized a massive project of 500,000 million dollars led by Openai called Stargate, announced with large fanfare in the White House just after President Donald Trump returned to office, suggesting that the investors involved lacked funds for the project.

Musk’s lawyer Marc Toboff said he presented the offer to OpenAI’s board of directors on Monday, according to the report.

“It’s time for Openai to be the force of well focused on safety and open source that once was,” the WSJ to Musk cited in a statement proportionate to Anberooff. “We will make sure that happens.”

Openai, Musk, Toboff and Microsoft, which supports OpenAi, did not immediately respond to Reuters comments requests.

The offer has the support of Musk’s artificial intelligence company, XAI, which could be merged with OpenAi after an agreement, the WSJ reported.

Musk co -founded Openai with Altman in 2015, but he left before the company took off. Subsequently, he founded the competitive artificial intelligence startup in 2023.

Currently, Openai is trying to transition from a non -profit entity to a profit, which, according to the company, is necessary to ensure the capital required to develop the best artificial intelligence models.

Musk’s demand against Openai and Altman says that the founders originally approached him to finance a non -profit organization focused on the development of AI to benefit humanity, but that he was now focused on earning money.
