The president of China, Xi Jinping, warned Tuesday that the commercial war will “erode” the global economic order, during an official visit to Vietnam, where his tour of Southeast Asia started to reinforce ties with the region.
In a meeting with President Vietnamese, Luong Cuong, XI said that commercial wars will “erode the international trade system, the stability of the global economic order and the legitimate interests of all countries of the world, especially of developing countries,” according to the Chinese news agency Xinhua.
Not explicitly mentioning the United States, the Chinese president urged Vietnam to “jointly oppose the power games and unilateralism”, within the framework of the commercial war after the first tariffs announced by Washington.
XI proposed that the presiding country and Vietnam, both governed by their respective communist parties, “respond to external uncertainties with friendly cooperation and socialist strengths.”

XI’s visit to Vietnam is loaded with symbolism
