An old man arrested immediately after the murder of Charlie Kirk falsely said that he had shot the conservative activist to hinder the police response to find the true shooter, said the Utah County Sheriff’s office on Tuesday.

George Zinn, 71, attended the Kirk event at the University of Valle de Utah and was seen stating that he shot Kirk shortly after the shooting, according to the Sheriff’s office.

Zinn was taken to the University Police Department and then transferred to a local hospital after experiencing a medical episode, whose nature was not specified by the Sheriff’s office.

The Utah County Sheriff’s office said Zinn, while in the hospital, falsely declared that he claimed to be the shooter to obstruct the response of the local police to the murder.

Police said there is no information that Zinn has conspired with the alleged shooter, Tyler Robinson, who was accused on Tuesday in relation to Kirk’s murder.

Zinn also allowed police officers to review their phone, which contained sexually explicit material of minors.

The Sheriff’s office said that Zinn admitted to the researchers that “obtains sexual satisfaction when seeing and sharing” the images, “and that the preferred age of its victims is between five and twelve years.”

Zinn is still in custody and is detained under suspicion of serious crimes of justice obstruction and sexual exploitation of a minor.

The judicial records had not appointed a lawyer for Zinn until Tuesday afternoon, NBC News reported.

Zinn was arrested in 2013 for sending threats to the organizers of the Salt Lake City marathon days after the attack with bombs in the Boston Marathon, which left three dead and more than 260 injured. Zinn has won the reputation of presenting himself in public and political events in Salt Lake City with the aim of interrupting the meetings, according to The New York Times and the local Ksl 5 chain, an affiliate of the NBC.
