Crafting and building are huge game mechanics in Pokémon Pokopia, and these things require a lot of resources and items to do. Thankfully, there are also a lot of Pokémon eager to help you get things done. Whether you’re looking for lumber, iron ore, or paper, your pocket monster neighbors can be crucial in getting things done. In fact, many things you can’t even get without them.
Even once you have built a beautiful house or crafted that large storage box, you can use the help of many Pokémon to further customize items with paint. So many possibilities await, but in order to first change those logs into lumber, you have to know which of the Pokémon wandering around your island can help you with it. In many of these instances, you have to show the raw material to the Pokémon before the option even comes up for them to use their specialty to help.
Pokémon Can Make Lumber From Logs
Must Have The Chop Specialty
Early on in Pokémon Pokopia, you are introduced to the idea of having Pokémon friends process materials for you when Scyther uses the Chop specialty to make logs become usable lumber.
You can easily search for Pokémon with the correct specialty in your Pokédex.
Sometimes you can get lucky and find lumber lying around in the overworld, or even get it from breaking down other items. But the easiest way to get lumber is by asking someone with a Chop specialty to make it for you.
There may be more, but the Pokémon known currently to have Chop are:
- Scyther
- Scizor
- Heracross
- Pinsir
- Crobat
- Farfetch’d
- Grubbin
- Victreebel
- Zoroark
- Vikavolt
- Dartrix
- Decidueye
- Greninja
- Corvisquire
- Rookidee
Simply offer some small logs to any of these Pokémon and the option should appear for you to ask them to turn the logs into lumber.
Pokémon Can Make Iron Ore From Nonburnable Garbage
Must Have The Recycle Specialty
In a world that has crumbled into ruin, the Recycle specialty sounds pretty useful. These Pokémon can take Nonburnable Garbage and turn it into Iron Ore for you. Again, simply offer the garbage to them as a gift, and the option should appear.
- Trubbish
- Garbodor
- Porygon
- Metang
- Cinccino
After giving them some time to chew on it, they will then bring you the Iron Ore next time you speak with them.
Pokémon Can Make Bricks From Squishy Clay
Must Have The Burn Specialty
Bricks are often used in building and crafting, but they take a little work to get. First, you have to collect Squishy Clay, then you can bring it to a Fire-type Pokémon with the Burn specialty. They will offer to turn the Squishy Clay into Bricks, and then you simply have to wait for them to finish.
Pokémon Can Make Paper From Wastepaper
Must Have The Recycle Specialty
Another strength of the Pokémon with the Recycle specialty is being able to take dirty wastepaper and turn it into nice, clean Paper for you. This finished Paper can be useful in making things like bookshelves, although it isn’t needed in as many types of building and crafting as other resources like Iron can be.
Metang, who I needed to create Paper for a side quest I had, was the inspiration for my learning how to locate Pokémon when they wander off, as this little one had completely disappeared from my world.
Pokémon Can Smelt Ore Into Bars Using A Smelting Furnace
Must Have The Burn Specialty
In some cases, different kinds of Ore may be useful simply as they are, but often you will need to transform the Ore into Bars before you can craft or build with it. This process is done at a Smelting Furnace and requires a Pokémon with the Burn specialty to constantly shoot fire into it for quite some time. Truthfully, this looks like an exhausting process, but they don’t seem to complain.
- Charmander
- Charmeleon
- Charizard
- Torchic
- Torkoal
- Scorbunny
- Litwick
- Lampent
- Growlithe
- Arcanine
- Combusken
- Blaziken
- Magby
- Magmar
- Raboot
- Carkol
- Charcadet
- Vulpix
- Ninetales
- Cyndaquil
- Volcanion
While reviewing Pokémon Pokopia for ScreenRant I realized that if you ask any of these Pokémon to follow you and go up to the Smelting Furnace, they simply take over. As long as you have stocked it with Ore, they should automatically catch on and take over working on it for you.
Pokémon Can Collect Resources For You
Must Have The Gather Specialty
Once you have the recipe to craft a Community Box, or happen to find one out in the world, take a look at which Pokémon you have that are able to use the Gather specialty. Placing this Community Box somewhere in the open will inspire them to randomly drop resources they find into the box, where you can then collect them at your leisure.
- Carokol
- Gastly
- Machop
- Machoke
- Machamp
- Duskull
- Giragarig
- Mismagius
Although the Community Box can be used anywhere, putting it down near the home or habitat of a Gather specialty Pokémon will give you the best chances of it being used frequently.
Pokémon Can Generate Electricity For You And Power Up Electronics
Must Have The Generate Specialty
While this isn’t necessarily the same as providing you with crafting materials, having a Pokémon with the Generate specialty can come in handy early in the game, or before you’ve hooked up generators for electricity to power your islands.
- Raichu
- Pawmi
- Voltorb
- Magnemite
- Magneton
- Magnezone
- Elekid
- Mareep
- Flaaffy
Peakychu, despite being a Pikachu, cannot use the Generate specialty, as is explained in the game.
These Electric-type Pokémon will happily power up any streetlamp, television, or other electronic device for you for a short time. It’s still better to connect things to steady power, however, as the Pokémon charge will only last a short while.
Pokémon Can Crush Items Like Berries Into Dye
Must Have The Crush Specialty
Customizing items can make decorating your worlds in Pokémon Pokopia even more fun, as you can personalize most things to the colors of your choosing. But in order to do that, you first need to get the dye to make paint.
Pokémon who have recently finished assisting you in creating any resource can say no when asked to make more. If that happens, either find another Pokémon with the same specialty, or wait a few minutes and ask again.
Giving items like berries to any Pokémon with the Crush specialty can lead to the option of asking them to Crush those items into Dye. For example, giving Leppa Berries to Onix can then prompt the question if you want it turned into Red Dye.
- Onix
- Conkeldurr
- Pawmo
- Pawmi
- Pawmot
- Dugtrio
- Geodude
- Graveler
- Golem
- Larvitar
- Pupitar
Searching your Pokédex for any Pokémon in your area that has Crush is the quickest way to find who you need in order to make Dye. Following Smearguru’s questline will then allow you to turn Dye into Paint Balloons to Customize with.
Pokémon Can Leave Items Like Fluff, Vine Ropes, Twine, Honey, And Squishy Clay
Must Have The Litter Specialty
Littering doesn’t sound like a good thing. In fact, it’s quite frowned upon in human society. However, when Pokémon litter, it can be very useful. Pokémon with the Litter specialty will leave things on the ground for you, often near their homes or habitats. If they have a house, make sure to check inside the house as well for some of these resources.
- Bellsprout
- Combee
- Spinarak
- Ariados
- Mareep
- Paldean Wooper
- Codsire
- Volcarona
- Trapinch
- Swablu
- Altaria
- Servine
The resources they leave behind will depend on what kind of Pokémon it is. For example, Mareep will leave Fluff, Spinarak will drop Twine, and Bellsprout will leave Vine Rope for you.
Pokémon Can Sell You Items, Even Some Hard To Find Things
Must Have The Trade Specialty
As long as there is a working cash register, there will likely be a Pokémon with the Trade specialty enjoying pretending to be a shopkeeper. You can either create an area for them, or they will often use the inside of a repaired Pokémon Center as their storefront and lay out several random items that you can Trade with them for.
- Blastoise
- Slowbrow
- Hitmonlee
- Hitmonchan
- Hoothoot
- Meowth
- Happiny
- Zorua
- Zoroark
- Clefable
- Prinplup
- Audino
- Misdreavus
- Alakazam
- Gardevoir
It’s worth checking out what they have in their rotating stock, as sometimes they may have something you have never seen before, or even a useful material. Then a window will open up with your inventory available, and you can offer them something in exchange.
