Paddy’s Pub is open for business as the gang from It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia assembles for season 18.

Filming on the long-running comedy series’ latest season is indeed getting underway, and Rob Mac, Kaitlin Olson, Glenn Howerton, Danny DeVito, and Charlie Day are all ready to serve up more classic hi-jinks, Mac has revealed.

A photo posted to social media shows It’s Always Sunny season 18’s Mac, Dee, Dennis, Frank, and Charlie arrayed around the Paddy’s Pub bar, looking like their old familiar crazy selves (via Rob Mac/Instagram). A caption reads, “The whole gang is back together and our heads are weirder than ever. We’re also in different scenes apparently.”

Mac’s latest update comes just a week after the star posted an image of a slate along with the caption “Back in the kitchen,” indicating that It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia had begun work. During a fan engagement session on social media on February 13, Mac confirmed that season 18 will have more than 8 episodes, breaking with the precedent set by the last three seasons, but did not reveal the exact episode count.

It’s Always Sunny season 17 dropped in July 2025, running for 8 episodes until the finale on August 20. The show’s future beyond season 18 is unfortunately in some doubt, as stars Day and DeVito discussed in a 2025 interview (via LA Times).

Look, we have a contract with FX up to 18 seasons, and all of us feel as though we can do that,” Day explained. “Beyond that, I’m not sure they’ll ask for more seasons, so next year could be it.”

DeVito offered his own perspective on whether FX should renew It’s Always Sunny for season 19, saying, “Yeah, they might have some kind of mental defective thing happen to them between next year and not ask for another bunch. That’s always the case. Then also, maybe, they might want to pay us more.”

Dee actor Olson also recently discussed the show’s long-term future, emphasizing the need to step away at the right time while talking to Chelsea Handler in a January 2026 interview.

It’s getting weird. Like… a few years ago, it was exciting. We’re like, ‘Oh, we’re breaking records.’ And now it’s like, ‘Well, now we’re just old and weird,'” Olson said, adding, “But also, you don’t want to overstay your welcome. So, at what point am I like, ‘I should probably Irish exit. Should I just leave the show and not tell anyone?’

Paddy’s Pub may indeed be closing up shop after It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia season 18, but the gang will get at least one more go-around, as Mac’s new Instagram post reiterates.
