Right now, predictions for now big GTA 6 is going to be are all over the place, but given the game’s visuals, it’s clear that it’s going to take up a lot of digital real estate. One user kicks things off, predicting: “My money would be on 200+ GB day one with added 60/80 GB when online releases and possibly even larger with a PC release.”
Another user brings up a good point about how Rockstar optimizes a lot of their releases regardless of the large scope compared to other studios: “It’ll be up with some of the biggest like RDR2 was but definitely not the biggest file size ever. Rockstar optimizes their stuff. The Ark Survival devs have their game able to reach like 450gb with all the DLCs because they refuse to optimize their file size intelligently and the Call of Duty games are busted now with their launcher madness making you download a million things with insane file sizes.”
Call of Duty is the best example, as some releases can reach 200GB on PC and consoles due to extra game modes and feature bloat. One discussion on Reddit suggests taking the game at face value at 200GB, which would be a massive swing from Rockstar and wouldn’t even fit on some stock hard drives. Other users are confident it won’t go above that: “Won’t be 200gb, maybe 130-150gb but I will make sure that I have more than 200gb just for online updates”
If you haven’t upgraded your console’s HDD/SSD yet, now might be a good time to find a deal. Who knows what the market will look like in late 2026.

For reference, GTA 5 launched at around 60GB, then eventually ballooned into nearly 100GB after updates on PC. While GTA 6 isn’t slated to launch on PC at this time, it will come later, so you may need to clean up even more space for that port.
If you want to pick up Grand Theft Auto 6, consider clearing out some space on your device of choice come November. In fact, you may want to start saving up for the game now, especially if it ends up being more expensive than $70.
