Marvel Introduces A New Fantastic Four Team In Comics Crossover

Marvel officially introduces a new Fantastic Four team in the comics. Out of all superhero teams in Marvel Comics, the Fantastic Four is probably the most consistent. Heroes like Spider-Man, She-Hulk, Black Panther, and Wolverine have gone through the FF’s ranks, but the original line-up is irreplaceable.

Reed Richards, Sue Storm, Ben Grimm, and Johnny Storm are the Fantastic Four’s resident heroes, through deaths, resurrections, break-ups, and continuity resets. Newer family members like Franklin and Valeria Richards, Jo-Venn, and N’Kalla are also an official part of the squad. But every once in a while, completely unrelated characters come in and replace the Fantastic Four.

In an alternate Marvel timeline, the Fantastic Four fail to capture Red Ghost and get sent to a different dimension by his new contraption. Stranded in a new world, the team find themselves stripped of their superpowers. What’s worse, the Fantastic Four get captured by a council of apes, four of which have absorbed their abilities: Cornelius develops super-elasticity, Zira becomes invisible, Dr. Zarius’ body is covered by rocks, and General Ursus engulfs his body on fire.

Never has any Planet of the Apes universe met such an immense level of power. The apes often overpower humans through sheer number, strategy, intellect, and political power. Developing superpowers could be the next step in the apes’ evolution. If they have the opportunity to acquire the Fantastic Four’s knowledge, they could launch their very own age of heroes in the Planet of the Apes universe.

Marvel’s Planet Of The Apes Crossover Fills A Movie Void

The Fantastic Four: First Steps‘ Opening Action Scene Is Still Missing

The Fantastic Four find themselves in one of the most challenging trials in recent times thanks to Red Ghost. Notably, John Malkovich’s Red Ghost is one of the classic Marvel villains the team was supposed to fight in The Fantastic Four: First Steps‘ opening action montage. Red Ghost and the Super-Apes were removed from the movie, and the full scenes featuring them have yet to be revealed.

Planet of the Apes vs Fantastic Four is an unprecedented crossover, only possible because of Disney’s acquisition of 20th Century Fox in 2019. However, it also works as restitution for one of The Fantastic Four: First Steps‘ most interesting cut concepts. With beloved characters from the Planet of the Apes universe, a de-powered team, and Doctor Doom’s mystery role, this event ends up being even more exciting.

Planet Of The Apes Versus Fantastic Four #1 is now available from Marvel Comics.
