A new Octopath Traveler RPG has been confirmed by developer Square Enix, and the game is arriving later this year, to the surprise of fans. The HD-2D franchise was first initiated in 2018 with the release of the original game, and has since received two sequels and a mobile game – which is the foundation for the third core entry. The release of Octopath Traveler 0 in 2025 was met with a few mixed reviews for that very reason, but the series is still one of the most beloved among Square Enix’s umbrella.
Now, the company has confirmed that a new game in the series will be released soon. As was reported by Game Informer, the Octopath Traveler franchise will receive a new TTRPG in October. The Octopath Traveler TRPG has already been available in Japan for over four years now, seeing that it was released in February 2022, based on the original title, but is now making its way to the Western market with English localization.

The TTRPG Arrives In October
Even though this game isn’t necessarily brand-new, it represents the return of the Octopath Traveler franchise for many players. The Octopath Traveler TRPG Rulebook will be officially released on October 6 this year, boasting 328 pages and a hardcover. With this new TTRPG system to play with, players will be able to form parties, as you would expect, exploring the world of Orsterra. This TTRPG uses 2d6-based rules and brings forth the many elements you’ve seen in the franchise, like jobs, characters, locations, and more.
The Octopath Traveler TRPG takes place in the official Octopath Traveler timeline (considering both the original title and the mobile game, Champions of the Realm), so you can expect a ton of different possibilities when exploring your campaign. You’ll be able to create your own custom character for this adventure or even control some of the best characters from the magnificent Octopath Traveler, like Therion and Primrose.

One of the most exciting aspects about this announcement is that the Octopath Traveler TRPG Rulebook is being brought to Western markets in collaboration with Dark Horse. The publisher is not only well-known for its large array of comics, but also sourcebooks for games. Dark Horse has expertise in working with video game adaptations, such as the new adaptation for Cyberpunk 2077.

Surely, gamers will still be on the lookout for a new Octopath Traveler core game, especially considering how disappointing Octopath Traveler 0 was in comparison to its predecessors, but this could be a breath of fresh air for what is already a revolutionary RPG series.
